Introduction
For most people, "OUR SONG" holds a special meaning - that one significant song that you instantly identify with - unmistakably yours. For many of us, songs were the backdrop against which we lived our lives, a musical timestamp through an emotional journey, marking people, places, events and feelings. Beneath each banner song were a host of supporting songs that reinforced the message or complemented the sentiment.
These pages are dedicated to those for whom music serves as an auditory picture album, conjuring mental images attached to specific songs. Whether heartwarming or melancholy, music has the power to move us, inspire us, satisfy us and refresh us.
The first goal of this website is to provide you with an easy way to find, access and play special songs that might otherwise be difficult to locate and enjoy. The catalog is comprised primarily of 1960's and 1970's music, with selections from other decades where deemed appropriate. Not only will you find chart-toppers in each of the categories, but also somewhat obscure but nonetheless memorable tunes that I invite you to sample.
My secondary goal is to help broaden the musical tastes of my visitors. If you enjoy the familiar songs that I've chosen, there's a good chance that you'll enjoy the others too.
The main menu features 5 broad categories - Love Songs, Sad Songs, Big Beat Songs, Way Ahead Of Their Time Songs and Great Songs. Within each menu choice is a list of song titles and artist names that will link you directly to a particular version of that song in YouTube.
Picking the version to present is a balance among finding the best quality audio, the most interesting accompanying video and either an original arrangement or a live version that closely resembles the one that you will likely remember and relate to.
YouTube provides a simple medium to readily access a large catalog of music without copyright complications or legal liabilities. I've chosen it as a delivery mechanism for those reasons. This site is not meant to be an unattended radio station, but rather a single play video jukebox experience that requires interaction and engagement.
The YouTube content is provided by the contributor and not by me. As such, I take no responsibility for the views expressed, language or ongoing comments that accompany each video.
This site requires no registration or login.
It helps to have a high speed internet connection, but there are work-arounds for slower connections that can let you load one song while another is playing.
It has been said that "nostalgia is memory without the pain". I hope you enjoy your visit and the selections that I've provided. If I help you remember a forgotten tune or coax a happy memory, then I've been successful.
Come back often as new songs are added every week. If you'd like to recommend a song for addition to the catalog or have a comment, emails are welcome at webmaster@TheyArePlayingOurSong.com.

Instructions
As an initial test drive, I recommend that you close all other applications and windows to preserve as many computer resources as possible for songs and to reduce the clutter as you move from window to window.Every time you click on a song, it will open in its own new window. If you let the song play through, then click on the next selection you'd like, they will play sequentially. If you pick a second song while the first is playing, they will play together, so you'll need to pause or close one or the other using the controls on the YouTube page.
For the best user experience, I recommend that you tile two windows vertically with this page on the right and the YouTube page on the left. For Windows XP users, start by right clicking immediately to the left of the "START" button at the bottom left corner of your screen, then choose"TILE WINDOWS VERTICALLY" from the pop-up menu. Drag this window to the right side of your screen and drag YouTube to the left. This will let you navigate this site in one window while you listen and watch your selections in the other.
Note that on occasion, due to server traffic, your selected song may not load right away. Move to another selection and return later. All links are checked regularly.
You'll note that some songs include a link to their lyrics. If you right click on the "lyrics" link and choose to open in a new window, the lyrics will appear in the right hand window allowing you to watch the video and see the lyrics at the same time. When you close the lyrics window, you can once again navigate to other songs.
I'm working on adding a search utility that will search the entire site by song title or artist name in any category. Until it's ready you can search using the "find on this page" search tool of your browser. Click the small down pointing arrow to the right of the magnifying glass and choose "Find on this Page" or use the keyboard shortcut by pressing and holding the "CTRL" key while pressing the "F" key.
